The tour starts and ends in Kigali, Rwanda, and can end in Kigali or Kampala/Entebbe.
The proposed itinerary for the 4-Day Gorillas, Wildlife and Chimpanzee Trek:
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali, Rwanda to Bwindi National Park in Uganda
Our representative will pick you up in Kigali and drive to Bwindi National Park. The drive to Uganda will go through Rwanda's northern town of Ruhengeri. You will then cross over into Uganda via the Kyanika border post. The trip continues through the nearby Kisoro town and finally to Bwindi national park. The journey should take about 4-5 hrs. Arriving at Bwindi national park early afternoon will allow you to do optional activities such as hiking, visiting the community, etc.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking at Bwindi National Park
You will head to Bwindi National Park immediately after breakfast to get a briefing about the gorilla trek. The presentation will cover the basics of what to expect during the trek. The national park guide will assign all visitors the gorilla family to trek during the briefing session. Visitors from various countries are likely to be assigned to the different trekking group. The gorilla trek can take from a few to many hours. The time spent during trekking depends on how far the gorillas are inside the forest. After the trek, transfer to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Note: Depending on the availability of gorilla trekking permits, we might suggest trekking the gorillas at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park via the Ishasha sector for tree climbing lions
We will start the journey in the morning from Kisoro/Bwindi area and drive to Queen Elizabeth national park. The tour will take you through the stunning landscapes of western Uganda. You will arrive at Queen Elizabeth national park in the late afternoon.
Ishasha sector for tree climbing lions
On the way from Kisoro/Bwindi, we will drive through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, popularly known for the tree-climbing lions. Unlike their counterparts at the Kasenyi plains, the lions at Ishasha have found a way to climb the fig trees in a way to enjoy the warm temperatures available in the park. While the sighting of the tree-climbing lions is not 100% guaranteed, a stopover at Ishasha is worth a visit!
Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking at Kalinzu forest reserve. Transfer to Kigali or Kampala/Entebbe after the chimp trek
You will head to Kalinzu forest immediately after breakfast to experience trekking the chimpanzees in their forest home. If you are lucky on the trek, you might encounter other different species of monkeys in the Kibale forest. These include colobus monkey, olibe baboon, and red-tailed monkey. Transfer to Kigali or Kampala/Entebbe immediately after the chimpanzee trek. Alternatively, do game drives in the morning, and drive to Kigali or Kampala after the game drive.
