The 8-day gorilla safari and chimp habituation experience offered by Bamboo Ecotours takes you to the most stunning tourist attractions in southwestern Uganda. The major highlights are game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, chimpanzee habituation experience (full day) at Kibale National Park and gorilla trekking at Bwindi National Park.
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali, Rwanda to Bwindi National Park in Uganda
Our representative will pick you up in Kigali and drive to Bwindi National Park. The drive to Uganda will go through Rwanda's northern town of Ruhengeri. You will then cross over into Uganda via Cyanika or Katuna border post. The trip continues through the nearby Kisoro or Kabale town and finally to Bwindi national park. The journey from Kigali to Bwindi National Park will take approximately 4-5 hrs. Arriving at Bwindi national park early afternoon will allow you to do optional activities such as hiking, visiting the Batwa community, coffee-making experience, etc.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Adventure in Uganda
You will head to the Bwindi National Park gate immediately after breakfast to get a briefing about the gorilla trek. The national park guide will conduct the presentation that covers the basics of what to expect during the gorilla trek. The national guide will assign the gorilla trekking group during the pre-trekking briefing. Other visitors will likely join you. The gorilla trek can take from few to many hours, depending on how far the gorillas are inside the forest.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi in the morning
Golden monkey trekking (morning). Trek the Golden Monkeys in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
This trip will take you to trek the golden monkeys, an endemic species of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in southwestern Uganda. You will enter the forest and walk through the bamboo vegetation and a variety of indigenous plants like giant lobelia. During the trip, your national park guide will tell you about the history of the national park and the fauna and flora that the park holds. The golden monkey trek should take about 5 hours.
After golden monkey trekking transfer to the famous Lake Bunyonyi for an evening of relaxation.
Day 4: Travel from Lake Bunyonyi to Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha sector to spot tree climbing lions
We will start the journey in the morning from Lake Bunyonyi and drive to Queen Elizabeth national park. The tour will take you through the stunning landscapes of western Uganda. You will arrive at Queen Elizabeth national park in the late afternoon.
Ishasha sector for tree climbing lions
On the way from Lake Bunyonyi, we will drive through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, popularly known for the tree-climbing lions. Unlike their counterparts at the Kasenyi plains, the lions at Ishasha have found a way to climb the fig trees in to enjoy the warm temperatures available in the park. While the sighting of the tree-climbing lions is not 100% guaranteed, a stopover at Ishasha is worth a visit!
Day 5: Kasenyi plains game drive in the morning and Kazinga channel boat trip in the afternoon

You will start the day with early morning breakfast at the lodge. Afterward, we proceed to the famed Kasenyi plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park to spot various species of wild animals. Kasenyi plains dwell in the vast savannahs of the Albertine rift in Queen Elizabeth National Park. It will be a morning full of adventure! Expect to encounter lions, herds of buffalos, elephants, Uganda kobs, topi, and bushbucks. While spotting the "Big Five" in the park is not guaranteed, on a lucky day, you may site leopards to make it the "Big Four." We will return to the lodge for lunch.
Kazinga channel boat cruise
After lunch, join the Kazinga channel boat cruise for an afternoon of wild game viewing. You will spot crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, and a wide range of bird species on the channel waters.
Day 6: Kyambura gorge forest walk. Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park via Fort Portal crater lakes drive
We will start the day with a nature walk at Kyambura gorge, which is also known to host chimpanzees. Afterward, we will drive to Kibale National Park via the Fort Portal crater lakes drives.
Day 7: Chimp habituation experience at Kibale Forest National Park
Starting in the morning at Kibale National Forest Park, you will go into the jungle to experience the chimpanzee habituation experience. This will be a whole day experience of learning about how the chimps are trained to get familiar with human experience. You will be guided in the trek by Uganda Wildlife Authority staff. If time permits after the trek, there are complementary activities to do including community walks and visiting the Bigodi swamp sanctuary.
Day 8: Transfer to Kampala/Entebbe, Uganda. End of trip.
This will be the last day of the trip. We will travel from Kibale forest national park to Kampala or Entebbe International Airport. It is also possible to drive to Kigali instead.
